The Function of DID Numbers
DID numbers, called local numbers as well, is a kind of toll free numbers for enterprises’ clients to contact them. Their number pattern has no difference from a normal real local telephone number. When the call pick-up destination is located overseas, callers usually do not aware that they are dialing to foreign countries and they do not need to pay for any long distance call charge.
Sometimes the call pick-up destination can be local. The reason why enterprises choose DID numbers instead of ordinary local telephone numbers is because they are not necessarily bound to any specific number rigidly and the lines are possible to be directed to wherever they prefer anytime. The high flexibility favors those enterprises which have plans to relocate their call/contact centres to other cities or countries in the future. If the call/contact centres are moved overseas, the same DID number can still be kept for clients’ easier recognition. Virtual office can also be set by using DID Numbers.
To enterprises, they cost less than IDD too. Part of the call charge (local call charge) is shared by the callers (customers). Meanwhile, the callee (the enterprise) bears the rest call charge (long distance call charge). For cost saving on customer services, DID numbers are an irreplaceable choice.
